石牌村
Just a few kilometers from Guangzhou’s central park, surrounded by high-rise towers, an entirely different city begins — Shipai 石牌村. Here the buildings stand so close to each other that even on a clear day sunlight barely filters down, and the streets feel less like open urban space than narrow concrete crevices. This is not simply a Chinese old village like Liwan (荔湾区) — it is a concrete human hive.
There is almost no greenery, apart from a small patch of garden in the center. Everything else is concrete. This hive is inhabited by elderly residents, rushing delivery riders, and city workers who come here mainly to sleep. The local rhythm is sustained by pharmacies, barbershops, and simple little eateries.
